The Succulent Cafe and Trading Company.

I actually heard of this latest Solvang eatery from a client of mine, whose house guests were over the moon about it. And now I get it. In fact, the Succulent Cafe is to Solvang as Bell Street Farm is to Los Alamos. Really great food, all prepared in house, in a cool, rustic elegant setting. They have a fabulous array of charcuterie, again all house made, including the bacon, ham and fabulous tapenades and jams (like tomat0).

It looks like an old fashioned meat marketSucculent Cafe Counter

My guest and I had one of the most blogged about offering: Dave’s BBQ Meatloaf! OMG. My guest had the “sandwich” which was based in cornbread, with a pile of great meatloaf, topped with house-made bacon (incredible), pepperjack cheese and tomato jam. I had this in a salad, with very high quality baby greens, topped with the meatloaf and bacon etc, with cornbread kind of croutons and a lovely sherry vinaigrette.

I can go on and on, but I will let the lunch menu below speak for itself. Dinner is being served Thurs through Saturday 6pm-9pm; lunch Wed-Sun 11am-3pm; Breakfast Sat & Sun 9am-2pm. There is a predinner hour offering, perhaps catering to those who want a glass of wine and nibbles. Speaking of wine, they have a very nice selection of local varietals. Oh the phone: 805.691.9235.

No website as yet, but plenty of great reviews including the LA Examiner’s Cori Solomon and the most recent Food & Wine Mag.

I highly recommend this great spot. At last a restaurant in Solvang to pair with the many, many fine tasting rooms there.

Cheers!
